Medical Response

All of the many services we perform, from fire safety education and fire prevention inspections to fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical response, support the mission of the fire department.  All firefighters have multiple functions and are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).  EMTs are capable of delivering "basic life support" (BLS) to sick or injured people.  This includes skills like CPR, bandaging, recognizing dangerous medical emergencies, and treatment with oxygen and defibrillation. In addition to performing BLS care fire fighters assist Austin/Travis County EMS with patient preparation and packaging for transport to area hospitals.
